A Local’s Guide to Sydney’s Best Beachside Suburbs

If there’s one good thing to come out of Covid-19, it’s a newfound appreciation for what we have on our own doorstep. Blessed with some of the world’s finest beaches and our own Cinque Terre – the six-kilometre Bondi to Coogee clifftop walk – Sydney offers the perfect escape year-round.

For a couple’s staycation or a fun-filled family holiday, Sydney’s beachside suburbs sparkle as much as any Mediterranean jewel. You want to shop at the markets and dine in beachside cafés? No problem, you can do that too. Sometimes the best things in life are right under our nose!

Settle into one of Adina’s spacious Apartment-style Hotels just metres from Bondi or Coogee beach and you’ll see why Sydney locals have fallen in love with the eastern beaches’ lifestyle. The relaxed ambience, stunning ocean views and huge choice of cafés, bars and restaurants is hard to beat.

If you’d prefer a lazy night in, pick up delicious fresh produce from the Bondi Farmers Market or order Harris Farm groceries delivered to your door at Adina Bondi. Held every Saturday in the grounds of Bondi Beach Public School, the Farmers Market is a great place to snap up fresh seasonal produce, organic meats, cheeses and artisanal breads.

It’s also the place to enjoy coffee, brunch or lunch, with a huge selection of ready-prepared food on offer. Once you’ve made your purchases, head to the grassy area near the live music and enjoy your feast in the sun. Come back on Sunday and you’ll find the produce stalls replaced with jewellery, art, gifts and homewares.

All studios and apartments at Adina Bondi have balconies, perfect for morning coffee or an afternoon wine and some people watching. Take a swim in the ocean, do some laps at Bondi Icebergs pool, enjoy a beachside yoga class, or indulge in some of Bondi’s finest eateries with an easy brunch downstairs at Bills in Bondi, lunch at A Tavola or sunset cocktails at The Bucket List.

Just as on the famous Cinque Terre walk, the equally heart-pumping Bondi to Coogee walk hugs the coastline, offering stunning views and plenty of wow moments. Take time to enjoy the underwater nature trail at Gordons Bay and Giles Baths rock pool.

For those staying at the Adina Apartment Hotel Coogee, the coastal walk south towards Maroubra is also excellent. It’s much less crowded and in many ways is even more picturesque than the Bondi to Coogee walk.

Take a dip in the ocean just 200 metres from the hotel or splash about in Wylie’s Baths, one of Sydney’s oldest and most beautiful tidal pools. Enjoy early morning sunrises and ocean-view yoga and pilates.

The beach is captured perfectly in stunning aerial photography by local photographers WeThree, displayed in the reception of Adina Coogee. With a stunning new look following a multimillion-dollar refurbishment, the hotel is the perfect base for enjoying popular local eateries such as Café de France, Oceans Dining and Drink beachside bar, The Livingroom Yoga, Sugarcane Coogee and Osteria Coogee.

Barzura is a local favourite serving delicious meals and drinks all day, and it offers 10% discount to Adina guests. For the best coffee, head to The Diver Café, a little hole in the wall establishment.

Wrap up the day with a rooftop cocktail at the Coogee Pavilion, where the laidback atmosphere and awesome views sum up everything that is special about Sydney’s beachside suburbs.
