What You Need to Know About Cold Pressed Juice

If you’re one of the 20% of people who made a resolution to eat healthier this year, you’ve come to the right place. Why? Because we have the low-down about your new best friend: juice. We figured if shining beacons of health Miranda Kerr, Jennifer Hawkins and Jessica Gomes are drinking it, it must do something good for your wellbeing, so we had a chat with the team at cold pressed juice haven Pressed Earth to get the inside scoop on how to make juice work wonders for you.

You won’t catch Miranda, Jennifer and Jessica drinking orange juice: green is more their thing. Intrigued, we asked the wiz kids at Pressed Earth why this was. The fact is, while fruit juices can be a good source of nutrients, they tend to contain an awful lot of sugar, which we now know is not conducive to good health. “Our Greens Five juice is a customer favourite because it contains just 1.5 grams of sugar per 100 grams. It’s also packed with Vitamin C and iron, which your body will love.” Coincidentally, this particular juice also has as much protein as a boiled egg, meaning it will keep you fuller for longer than its sugary, fruit-only friends.

Ok, so green is the healthier choice. But what if we have a bit of a sweet tooth and can’t quite get excited about drinking purely veggies? “Then look for a veggie and fruit blend, such as our Greens Three, which gets a nice hit of sweetness from the apple and kiwi. Our philosophy’s all about balance and finding something that works for you, so there’s no point in forcing yourself to drink things you don’t like, especially when you can get similar benefits from something you actually enjoy.”

Speaking of benefits, it’s important to know what good things we can expect from incorporating juice into our diets. While the Pressed Earthers were quick to point out that body-beautiful benefits such as weight-loss come from a combination of a well-balanced diet and regular exercise, there are a number of good things that happen as a direct result of drinking juice, especially the cold pressed variety. “Because fruits and veggies are crushed much more slowly in a cold pressed juicer than in a traditional centrifugal machine, enzymes and nutrients are much better preserved. This means a whole lot more of them get into your blood stream where they can be put to work on any repair or healing your body may require.” Essentially, it’s like taking a whole lot of multivitamins, but in delicious liquid form, which is exciting when you think about all the potential benefits listed on vitamin packets, from improved immune functioning to increased energy levels.

While this is great news for health and well-being at any time of year, it being January and all, we wanted to know whether the team had any trade secrets that might help those of us trying to give healthy new year’s resolutions a good kick-start. “We know from our own experience that a three-day juice cleanse is a great way to reset and kick-start a healthier way of living. As well as giving you a big boost in nutrients, it gives your digestive system a break.” Think of it as restarting your computer or your iPhone: things usually work more efficiently afterwards. It’s also a great way to get out of bad habits and really engage the power of change. Excellent.

With the benefits of cold pressed juice discussed and our plan to kick-start the new year sorted, we asked the team for any final advice when it comes to making new year’s resolutions stick. “We say start small, be realistic, and be consistent. Have someone you can keep yourself accountable to, who can check in and motivate you when the wheels are starting to fall off. We’re firmly of the belief that wellbeing is strongly linked to self-worth; the idea that you and your body deserve to have the best chance to live the best kind of life. If you keep reminding yourself of that it’s a great way to stay motivated.”
