The school holidays are almost here and while it’s easy to keep the kids entertained up until Christmas, once Santa has delivered his presents and the feasting is over, boredom can quickly set in. To save you some research – we’ve got the round-up of the best family friendly things going on across Perth this summer.
Give surfing a go
For a beach adventure with a difference, slap on some sunscreen, pack some towels and get ready to hang ten at one of Big Wave Surfing School’s two day courses. The kids and parents will learn the art of this ocean sport together under the eyes of experienced instructors. You’ll be giving Kelly Slater a run for his money in no time.
Visit The Maze Water Park
For water sports of a different kind, make the drive up to The Maze and test out the exhilarating Plummet Slide, which boasts a speedy seven metre drop. Gentler slopes can be found in the Outback Splash section of the park and there’s a whole lot of fun to be had out of the water, making your way through one of the challenging mazes or getting up close and personal with cuddly koalas.
Discover dinosaurs at Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre
Rainy day? Head to the Convention Centre and immerse yourself in the world of Lost Creatures of the Cretaceous. This kids will have an amazing time learning about the creatures that walked our earth 145 million years ago.
Challenge the kids to an Escape Room
If the troupe has energy to burn, Escape Hunt is your best rainy day bet. Working in teams, you’ll have 60 minutes to work your way through a series of clues and puzzles to solve a mystery and make your escape from the ship, tavern or prison. Each of the rooms has multiple scenarios, making this a place you can come back to again and again.
Watch a movie outdoors
The warmer months mark the start of outdoor cinema season and you and the kids are spoilt for choice here in Perth. Rooftop Movies in Northbridge has something most nights of the week, with films ranging from the best new releases to trusty old favourites. There’s also pizza and bean-bags. Moonlight Cinema in Kings Park focuses more on the new stuff and allows patrons to BYO, creating perfect conditions for a relaxed picnic under the stars, complete with glass of wine for mum or dad.
