A Sydneysider's guide to NYE

Celebrating New Year’s Eve in Sydney is a once in a lifetime experience. With so many places to be at the stroke of midnight, here are our best tips, written by an in-the-know Sydneysider.

Mrs Macquarie’s Point

Located on the eastern side of the Opera House and historic Botanical Gardens. Pack a picnic and settle for the evening on the shores of Sydney Harbour.

Taronga Zoo

For a truly unforgettable New Year's Eve experience, you can't go past Taronga Zoo. Enjoy your night amongst the animals with spectacular views of Sydney Harbour. Gather friends and pack a picnic for the night.

Coogee Beach

Coogee Beach sparkles on New Year’s Eve as families, locals and visitors arrive early to enjoy the 9pm fireworks. You can also see the fireworks in surrounding Coogee areas such as Burrows Park Headland and Clovelly Beach car park. Note, there are no midnight fireworks.

Balmain

How about catching a 10 minute ferry from Circular Quay and celebrate in the bohemian hub of Balmain. Illoura Reserve is an excellent vantage point which has clear views of the Sydney Harbour Bridge. This spot is family friendly with easy transport access and an alcohol free zone.

Happy New Year! May 2016 be even better for all of us!

Darling Harbour

Join the party at Cockle Bay Wharf Darling Harbour with light shows starting from 8pm. With free entre, Darling Harbour is a popular spot with families for the 9pm fireworks. Arrive in the early afternoon to secure a spot by the bay.
