Spring has sprung and no Melbourne suburb has more exciting things to do than beachside St Kilda, which has filled its calendar with awesome events. Here are out top picks.
Dare to enter Spooktober’s exciting land of Halloween. The expansive grounds of St Kilda Town Hall are transformed into a house of horrors, with a Trick or Treat Manor, Doll House and Blood Manor. Hourly prizes from Count Carlisle for the best costumes.
2. Plug in to The Switch
For a festival of a different kind, check out The Switch on October 13. It’s set to be Australia’s biggest silent disco and comes complete with multiple channels (we’re most excited for the one dedicated to tunes from the 80s, 90s and naughties), Melbourne’s favourite food trucks and a bunch of amusement rides, perfect when you feel like a break from busting out your best moves.
3. Check out new kid on the block Supernormal Canteen
Despite only opening its doors in late July, Andrew McConnell’s newest venue is already a big hit. Located on Fitzroy Street, right next door to Adina Apartment Hotel St Kilda, it’s a Japanese-Korean-Chinese diner with a small but ever-changing menu. Think sashimi, yakitori and dumplings washed down with Japanese beer and sake in an uber-cool setting.
4. I Believe in Miracles...
For two nights only, disco superstars Boney M are back and they are storming the stage with their incredible run of Top 40 1970s Euro pop hits at the famous Palais Theatre - think Daddy Cool, Sunny, The Rivers of Babylon, Ma Baker. Yes, you know them all and you know you want to hit the dance floor.
5. The Princess Bride 30 year anniversary
Spend the night with the world's favourite farm girl turned princess, Buttercup, and dashing Westley as they take on a band of bandits, The Dread Pirate Roberts and the odd ROUS. Will she get rescued and have to marry the evil Prince Humperdinck of Florian in the end? No spoilers, please. At the Astor Theatre Sunday October 8.
