Sunset at the Opera House

No trip would be complete without a visit to the Sydney Opera House at sunset, so if time allows, head back to Circular Quay, grab a gelato from Gelatissimo (try the affogato flavour for a late afternoon pick-me-up), and enjoy spectacular views of the harbour as the sun goes down.

Coffee in a bookstore

Tucked away on a side street behind the Bondi ‘strip’ (the stretch of shops located along Campbell Parade, opposite the beach) sits the charismatic bookstore Gertrude and Alice. A bohemian hideout amid the glamour of the beach, this shop sells both new and second-hand books and is also an atmospheric café complete with antique furniture.

Mention ‘fried chicken’ to any Sydneysider and one of the recommendations will undoubtedly be Mary’s. The cheeseburgers are first-rate, but the fried chicken and creamy mash are definitely worth shouting about.

Art after dark

Sydney is full of great galleries and museums and the MCA has regular exhibitions and events held after 5pm. Listen to talks, take tours, and watch performances from local and international talent plus grab a drink from the rooftop bar and take in the stunning views.

Walk along the coastline

Firstly, take some time to soak up the winter sun at Bondi Beach. Then go for one of the most pleasant and picturesque walks Sydney has to offer, the coastal walk from Bondi to Coogee.

Skating at Cathedral Square
