Brisbane’s Gambaro Hotel Takes Top Honours At 2017 Restaurant and Catering Awards

20 JULY 2017 - Gambaro Hotel cemented its reputation as Australia’s best hotel for food lovers this week with both its restaurants taking home top honours at the 2017 Restaurant and Catering Awards for Excellence for Queensland/Northern Territory.

Gambaro Hotel cemented its reputation as Australia’s best hotel for food lovers this week with both its restaurants taking home top honours at the 2017 Restaurant and Catering Awards for Excellence for Queensland/Northern Territory. Black Hide Steakhouse was awarded Best Steak Restaurant – a title it has now held for four consecutive years – and Gambaro Seafood Restaurant was awarded Best Seafood Restaurant and the coveted title of Restaurant of the Year.

These latest accolades sit alongside an impressive collection of existing awards for the establishment, many of which are undoubtedly a result of expertise gained from the Gambaro family’s 60 year history in the restaurant industry.

This history began in 1953 when Italian fisherman Giovanbaptista Gambaro opened his first fish and chip shop on Caxton Street. In 1972 he opened Gambaro Seafood Restaurant, which is now Brisbane’s oldest and most awarded seafood venue, famous across Australia for its mouth-watering menu, exceptional service and convivial atmosphere. Giovanbaptista’s grandsons, John, Donny and Frank now run the two restaurants.

Black Hide Steakhouse, the MG Bar, a 300-seat banquet style function centre and the Gambaro Hotel are more recent additions to the family’s operations, with the latter being opened in May 2014. Despite their comparative youth, these venues have quickly made a name for themselves. In addition to the swag of awards now sitting in Black Hide Steakhouse, Gambaro Hotel picked up Best New Accommodation Hotel in its opening year and Boutique Luxury Hotel of the Year for 2015/2016.

Gambaro Hotel represents a successful partnership between the Gambaro family, who manage the venue’s drinking and dining offerings, and TFE Hotels, who took over management of the hotel aspect earlier this year. This arrangement pairs the Gambaro family’s 60 years of restaurant experience with TFE Hotels’ 50 years of hotel management experience, allowing both parties to focus on what they do best.

Gambaro Hotel is part of TFE Hotels Collection portfolio, a selection of beautiful, one-of-a-kind properties in Australia. A hallmark of the collection - which also includes the historic Art Deco-designed Hotel Kurrajong Canberra and The Calile, which will open next year in Fortitude Valley – is each property’s unique story and provenance; something Gambaro Hotel exudes.

TFE Hotels CEO Rachel Argaman said she was thrilled the hotel’s provenance has such relevance for today’s guests and that its restaurants have been recognised yet again as setting a benchmark in the industry.

“The Gambaro family really is an institution in the restaurant world and one of the few who are consistently recognised for providing exceptional dining experiences,” she said. “Gambaro Seafood Restaurant and Black Hide Steakhouse are drawcards in their own right and we love that they add a level of gastronomic excellence to stays at the hotel. It’s a point of difference that guests can experience luxurious rooms and amenities as well as some of the country’s best food – all in the same building.”

Gambaro Hotel is one of Brisbane’s most renowned and highly rated luxury hotels, offering 68 plush rooms on Caxton Street in Petrie Terrace – one of Brisbane’s most coveted entertainment precincts. As well as being a stone’s throw from sophisticated bars and beautiful boutiques, the hotel is just a short walk from Suncorp Stadium, Queen Street Mall, Queensland Museum and Science centre, Gallery of Modern Art, and Queensland Performing Arts Centre.

The hotel was designed by Hirsch Bedner Associates and its classically understated and contemporary design has helped the venue gain significant praise from the press and accolades as a luxury offering. Most of the guest rooms offer a private terrace or balcony, providing airy views over the streets of Paddington. The hotel’s interiors boast rich, warm tones, high end finishes and thoughtful inclusions, such as the lobby’s dazzling four metre high light installation, which pays tribute to the Gambaro family’s seafood heritage with a series of interlocking gold fish.

The family’s legacy, combined with TFE Hotels’ expertise, means guests seeking luxury in their surroundings and on their plates really need look no further than Gambaro Hotel when deciding on their next trip.
