Taste Bud Journey Down Under

TFE Hotels and Tourism Australia have teamed up to take Singaporeans on a taste bud journey down under. Over 150 guests are expected to attend the exclusive event to be held at Rendezvous Hotel Singapore on 5 June.                                  

‘Stay Gourmet Australia’ will celebrate the best of Australian food and wine. Recognising the amazing produce, people and places to visit across Australia, inspiring guests to see it and taste it for themselves.

Rachel Argaman, CEO of TFE Hotels said: “TFE Hotels is delighted to partner with Tourism Australia to showcase the best of Australian fare to Singaporeans.

We have a strong ethos to source local suppliers, and use the best possible seasonal produce from each region. This allows us to create dishes that are both true to the locale, and to our mission to serve simple, local and fresh food at all of our hotels. Guests will be invited to hear the many stories behind the locally sourced and seasonal produce our chefs use on their menus.”

Tim Martin, chef and spokesperson for Culina Singapore, a leading butcher in Singapore, will MC the event. Winner of Best Providore of the Year 2013 in Singapore, Culina specialises in premium, high end Australian meats – found on the plate in both Australia’s and Singapore’s best restaurants – Neil Perry, Nobu, Komu

The combination of People, Place and Produce at ‘Stay Gourmet Australia’ is a small sample of the unique food and wine experiences showcased by Tourism Australia’s Restaurant Australia campaign, being rolled out around the world.”

Special guests The Ralston Brothers from Sydney Rock Oysters will be on hand to freshly shuck oysters from holsters and Tuna Farmer Rick Kolegafrom seakol seafoodswill tell a tale of the tuna that got away. Other local food and wine suppliers on show include Kangarilla Road winery, Blue Pyrenees Winery and Matilda Bay Brewery; both wineries will have owner and wine makers in attendance to explain their selection of wines and specialties.

TFE Hotel’s chefs Nelson Burgos and Zach Riemersma will BBQ up a storm, cooking Yarra Valley rainbow trout with herbs and hazelnuts, in a live demonstration on stage. Group Executive Chef Nelson previously received three stars in the Sydney Morning Herald’s Good Food Under 30 Guide having developed popular restaurant Foley Lane from scratch.  Nelson has worked professionally with Electrolux Cooking School in Melbourne and Sydney, Sydney Seafood School and also Hidden Door in Sydney as a teacher and chef and has now brought these skills to TFE Hotels.
