Just 22 kilometres from the Sydney CBD and 7 kilometres from Sydney Airport, a stay in Hurstville allows you to take a step back from the bustle of the city without missing out on great shopping, dining, events, and opportunities to get out into nature. Here’s what you can do in Hurstville.

Get cultured

Start with a visit to Hurstville Museum & Gallery to uncover the town’s unique history through fascinating local stories. Permanent exhibitions share Hurstville’s transformation from the days of the original inhabitant known as the Biddegal people, to the first land grants in the early 19th century. You’ll also discover over 6,000 objects and artworks from the local area as well as an outstanding program of workshops, talks, tours and special events.

Get out in nature

Combine a swim with a bush walk at Oatley Park, and why not have a picnic while you’re at it? As one of Sydney’s finest reserves, the 45-hectares bushland hums with cockatoos, native flowers and trees, while the paved and unpaved walks through the bush offer lovely views of Georges River.  As you explore, head to Oatley Park Castle, a quirky sandstone lookout built during the Great Depression. From here, you’ll spot a sandy beach through the trees known as Oatley Baths, a 200m-long netted swimming area with change rooms, BBQs and picnic tables. Settle in with a picnic, cool off with a swim or simply laze on the pontoon or pristine grasslands.

Woodville Park is another great spot for enjoying the outdoors. Winding paths lead to serene spots perfect for a leisurely walk through nature or take a 15 minute drive to Brighton-Le Sand Beach for white sandy shores and clear crystal waters. There’s many cafes and restaurants located along The Grand Parade and Bay Street for a bite to eat too.

A slice of foodie heaven

Just a 7 minute drive from Hurstville is the popular Peakhurst Foodies & Farmers markets. Open on the last Friday night of every month, step into foodie heaven and indulge in delicious street food from over 60 different food stalls. Shop fresh produce and enjoy live music, kid’s carnival fun, activities and pony rides, making it the perfect family night out.

If you’re a fan of Asian flavours, then Hurstville is the right place for you. Around half of the population claims Chinese history, since Chinese from Hong Kong, Singapore and Malaysia migrated after the Second World War. Hurstville is buzzing with restaurants, Asian grocery stores, noodle stores and yum cha restaurants. We suggest heading to Hurstville Chinese for traditional dishes; Golden Sands is renowned for its Cantonese food and yum cha; try the bánh mì at Phu Cuong King's Hot Bread; and for handmade youtiao (Chinese fried bread) head to China Jiaozi in the Hurstville Station food court.
