A Summer to Remember in the City of Sails

After the year that’s been, you deserve a break... so why not book an urban escape and rediscover the City of Sails.  Here's our 9 must-dos to make your summer one to remember.

Take a Dip at the Parnell Baths

Looking for somewhere to cool off on those long summer days? Visit Auckland’s first saltwater pools, which first opened in 1914 and is still top of the list for locals when summer rolls around. Opt for a leisurely walk along the waterfront; cruise along the cycle lane using one of The Hotel Britomart bush bikes; or splash down with the kids in the dedicated water park.

Make Monday Your New Sunday

Who says your weekend has to stop on a Sunday night? Book The Hotel Britomart’s Urban Escape, and make sure you pick two nights that include a Sunday, to enjoy a free lunch or dinner at the hotel’s all day dining restaurant, kingi. It’s the perfect way to say goodbye to those Monday blues!

Spend a Day Beachside

In a country with more than 700 beaches, Auckland pulls way above its weight with more than 80. So, when the weather is perfect, plan a trip to one of the many inner-city beaches. Our insider tip is Mission Bay, it’s the perfect spot for a picnic in the sun or lunch at one of their many eateries on the promenade.

Walk on a Volcano

Catch the ferry to Rangitoto island, which is one of Auckland’s most iconic landmarks and the youngest island in the Hauraki Gulf. On this big day out, you’ll spend your day climbing through lava fields and soaking up the spectacular views of Tāmaki Makaurau. Our Top Tip: Allow extra time to explore the lava caves, you won’t regret it!

Soak in the Sun on Your Own Private Rooftop

Book yourself in one of the Landing Suites of The Hotel Britomart and pick The Wairoa or The Rangihoua Suite, both featuring an outdoor terrace, boasting views of the city and the glittering Waitemata Harbour. It’s perfect for working on your tan by day and even better during the cocktail hour.

Sky Tower Views

Head to “K-Road” as the locals call it - it’s short for Karangahape Road - and visit St Kevin’s arcade which is home to several great boutiques, cafes and one of the best dining spots with a view of Auckland’s sky tower. You won’t be disappointed.

Shop Your Heart Out

The Britomart Precinct is a mecca for cool hunters wanting the latest trends from some of the best designers. Shop from New Zealand’s fashion powerahouses, Maggie Marilyn and Deadly Ponies, or treat someone to a very special gift from Tiffany & Co. (Christmas is less than three months away, you know).

Stroll to the French Market

Parnell is known for its boutique art galleries, cute cafes and village-like atmosphere. Every Saturday the La Cigale French Market offers authentic Gallic cuisine and fresher-than-fresh local produce. Named Auckland’s best food market by Metro Magazine, this is the spot to buy flaky French pastries and coffee… which we think taste even better when you picnic in the beautiful surrounds of Parnell’s glorious rose garden.

Taste Dry-aged Kahawai

Take a seat in Tuawhiti Lane, in the heart of the Britomart precinct, where locals dine and meet. Order one of kingi’s signature dishes dry-aged Kahawai with Colman’s and white soy, and pair it with a glass of kingi white wine for a real taste of summer.

Sounds like a perfect summer to us!
