Clean, white sand and the bright blue of the Indian Ocean act as the centrepiece for Scarborough, enticing locals and out-of-towners alike. But it’s not just the beach that makes this suburb an excellent place to visit: the drinking and dining options are some of Perth’s best, the vibe is gloriously relaxed and there’s plenty of fun to be had once the sun goes down.

Eat Your Way Around Town

When you wake up with a hungry tummy – and some serious coffee cravings – Strait Cafe, located inside Rendezvous Hotel Perth Scarborough has you covered. Later on in the day, try The Hardware Store for their delicious pulled beef sandwiches or Knead Bread & Coffee for baked goods like focaccia, bagels and arguably the best sourdough in town.

And at night Il Locale has your next pizza night covered and hit up El Grotto for delicious Mexican street food.

Drinks With A View

With beach front views and the warm weather to match, there’s nothing quite like sipping on a cold beer or delicious cocktail. Luckily Scarborough is home to many picturesque bars starting with the iconic Scarborough Beach Bar slinging out burgers, beers, salads and sangas on the coastline.

For laid back vibes, a stellar wine list, crafts beers, chactuterie boards and signature shell cocktails head to SKOL or join the locals at General Public Co. perfect for celebrating a special occasion, or simply grabbing a pizza and drink with mates. If you’re up for a boogey The Lookout is a legendary beachside club and bar located right on the ocean with delicious food, cool tunes and a vibey atmosphere.

Beach and Water Sports

With coastline this beautiful, it’s no surprise the locals have made the most of beach activities. You can learn to surf, spend the day fishing, get your heart racing with kite or windsurfing, or go for a leisurely sunset sail. You can also stretch your legs with a nice long walk along the sand, heading north to Trigg Beach or south to Brighton Beach. The sun shines down on Scarborough most days of the year so, even when it’s a little too cold to swim, you can still enjoy the great outdoors.

Land Activities

If you’re not into water sports or beach activities, Scarborough is bustling with pedestrian promenades, a children’s adventure playground, art projects, bowls clubs, climbing wall and the magnificent Sunset Hill – perfect for a picnic and picturesque views.

Scarborough is also home to the only beachside pool in Western Australia, geothermally heated so it can be enjoyed all year round, nearby is the Snake Pit, a three-tier skate park, one of the biggest and most diverse in the country. Here you can watch young West Australians try out new moves on their skateboard, scooter or BMX. It’s also regularly hosting exhibitions and thrilling events!
