Sydney is "Amazing" in the Wintertime

While Sydney is renowned for its harbour, iconic beaches and epic restaurants and bars, they aren’t the city’s sole attractions (though they are welcome ones). If you’re headed to the Harbour City, we’ve handpicked our Top 4 Attractions that'll add a little culture to your visit.

Immerse Yourself in Contemporary Creativity

Due to their sheer volume, tackling Sydney’s many museums and galleries is no easy feat, but the Museum of Contemporary Art Australia is a fab place to start. Situated on the western fringes of Sydney’s Circular Quay, the museum boasts more than 4000 pieces of contemporary artwork ranging from sculptures and paintings to moving image, dance and photography. The art is increidble and the helpful gallery staff are more than happy to give you their take on the exhibits.  Even the harshest of critics will find something to their liking.

Head to the Hunter

No trip to the New South Wales capital is complete without a visit to the neighbouring Hunter Valley wine region. The wine region’s viticulture history dates back to the early 1800s and, best of all, is just a two hour car journey from the CBD. So, if you’re seeking a wine adventure, you’ll want to leave early enough to make a day of it (and if you’re wishing to try a couple of grape varieties for good measure, consider settling for the three-hour train journey, instead).

Explore the Museum of Sydney

Seeking a city-centric cultural adventure? Check out the Museum of Sydney. Situated a mere five minute walk from the Royal Botanic Gardens, Circular Quay or the Opera house, the museum showcases pieces and collections of art celebrating the city’s people and history. We recommend stopping off at the Opera Bar after your visit for a little museum debrief and stunning views.

Check out Carriageworks

If all things creative and bold tickle your fancy, head to Redfern’s Carriageworks, Australia’s largest multi-art precinct. Previously a work station for workers on the city’s rail network in the early 1900s, the building's industrial origins ooze chargm. At Carriageworks you’ll find all the cultural events; theatre and dance, live music, exhibitions you could want, plus, there weekly farmer’s market is a must-see.
